What information we collect and why

We collect personal information to allow us to run our campaigns, process donations, and share information that is relevant to you as a supporter of farming families and communities.

In order to undertake this work, we collect the following information:

  • Information you provide: When you join us at keepthesheep.com.au, sign one of our petitions, share your story, register for an event or make a donation, we collect the information you provide, such as your name, contact details, address, postcode, payment details and any other information you choose to give us. We use this information to run our campaigns, submit formal petitions to parliament, process donations and send you opportunities to get involved. We may also use your information to analyse trends, improve our campaigns and inform our advocacy. You can stop receiving emails or update your details at any time using the link at the bottom of any email we send you.

  • Donations: When you make a donation, your card payment is processed securely by our third-party payment provider. We do not store your full card details on our systems. We may collect your address and other details in connection with your donation to ensure we comply with any applicable reporting and disclosure obligations under Commonwealth, state or territory electoral laws.

  • Communications with us: When you provide us with further information via our website, send us an email or otherwise contact us directly (including over social media platforms), we may retain that information in order to respond to your enquiry.

  • User trends: We collect information about how our supporters respond to our emails and how many take action through our site, including through analytics tools such as Google Analytics. We analyse these trends to improve our campaigns and communications. From time to time we may share high-level trends and insights with partners and funders, but this will not include your personal details.

How we manage your information

Sometimes we use third parties to manage our website, campaign platform, donations and communications. These third parties are contractually required to handle your information in accordance with Australian privacy law. We do not authorise third parties to use your information for their own purposes. Some of the services we use may store information on secure servers located overseas; where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with Australian privacy law.

We also use social media platforms (such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and X) to engage with supporters. When you interact with us on these platforms, or remain logged into them while visiting our website, those platforms may collect information about your activity. Please refer to each platform's privacy policy for information about how they manage your data.

Information security

We take appropriate security measures to protect against unauthorised access to, alteration, disclosure, or destruction of your personal information. These include reviews of our data collection, storage, and processing practices, as well as physical and technical security measures.

We will not sell, trade, or exchange your information without your permission.

We will not provide your personal information to any other organisation, with the following exceptions:

  • Where required for the operation of our campaigns and to demonstrate geographic support to decision-makers, but not your name, email address or phone number unless you have provided prior express consent;
  • When you petition a decision-maker through our website, your name, state and postcode may be included in a formal petition submitted to parliament;
  • Where required for financial transactions (e.g. to verify and process card payments); and
  • Where required by law or by a government agency or regulator.

Access to personal information is restricted to officeholders, employees and volunteers of Farming Families and Communities WA Ltd who need that information to run and improve our campaigns in accordance with this policy. All individuals with access to your data are bound by confidentiality obligations.

Your rights

Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may change from time to time. We will not reduce your rights under this Privacy Policy without your consent. Most changes will be minor, but we will post any changes on this page and, if the changes are significant, we will provide a more prominent notice to supporters.
